Vince just had his year and a half medical visit yesterday, I've been dreading it because I knew it would mean several vaccinations. Luckily Mike is the one who could take him to the appointment. We got our report of his height and weight and head circumference and I wanted to share the latest stats. Our boy is only in the 7th percentile for weight! I couldn't believe that number, but also know I shouldn't hold too much to those numbers. Still, 7th percentile?? I swear we're not starving the kid. He did manage to gain some more head circumference however, and is now in the 71st percentile for that. So all his 7th percentile weight must be from his head! He managed to grow a couple more inches as well, and is now in the 39th percentile at 31.1 inches long.
He received 4 vaccines yesterday and from Mike's report he was a complete champ about it. Only whimpering a bit when the MMR was given (which can given lots of stinging). He was given the "healthy kid stamp of approval" overall... and our provider wasn't really worried about his weight. He eats when he's hungry and we always offer good foods for him to choose from.
Other latest goings on with our little man is that he's getting so good at walking; he just cruises all over the house like the little biped that he is. The waddle that he'll strut when he's walking around will forever melt the hearts of his Mom and Dad; I watch him every day as he gains words and talents and am amazed at how much he's grown. I wonder where the time has gone, and feel like it was just yesterday that he was being fed solid food for the first time! Slow down already!
Last week I looked into 3 different daycare centers down near our house, thinking it was inevitable that we'll end up switching him. The choices were great and I loved one in particular, but when Mike and I talked it over, he came to the conclusion that he'd now miss Vince too much in the morning if we commuted on the train without him! I do admit it's a great time to sit with him and read books and just hang out until we all have to go our separate ways. It also cuts down on the total time he's away from us and in daycare. So.... we decided in the end to just leave him at the daycare he's at... and enjoy him while we can every day while we're on the train together.
This morning Mike drove into work, so he dropped me off at the train and I commuted in to work alone. I was a little excited to be able to just sit and read my book for the commute... not having to keep Vince from throwing his sippy cup all over the train car (I know. I'm supposed to be enjoying this time with Vince... but give me a break). As I was reading, and the train became more filled up with every stop.... this man sat down next to me. After a few minutes he looked at me all surprised and said "oh! is your boy sick today? I was looking around for the couple with the little boy and here you are right next to me!" I said "Hmm, are we that noticeable on the train?" he laughed and said that he's just happened to be in the same train car as us so many times that he feels like he's gotten to know us, and he went on to complement us on how good we are with Vince and how cute and well behaved he is. It was nice to hear.... I admit it was a little creepy at first but I quickly realized this guy was completely harmless; and it was a nice complement. I'm sure we put on a pretty good show for people in the morning while we try and keep Vince entertained during the trip. He'll play peek a boo with the other passengers, and anyone who even slightly acknowledges his existence he'll want to interact with..... many times offering to give them his half chewed, soggy cookie that he's been gnawing on. Luckily most people decline the offer ha ha!
This weekend we look forward to having Nancy and Nori and their dog Quincy come and visit (these are our friends that just got married two weekends ago!! yay!), and we'll all be going to a co-ed baby shower (no, not Nancy's haha!). We're also starting to pick out tile and materials to fix up our bathroom, thank God, because I get grossed out whenever I shower in that little stall. We'll see how long until we actually get the job done.

Those percentile figures probably include lots of kids who've been drinking juice all day and eating junk food and are heavier than is optimal, so being 7th percentile is not a bad thing for a healthy active boy! Miss him!
