Yesterday Vince had his 4 month old well baby visit. This was going to include another horrible round of vaccinations, to which I would have rather avoided! I made Mike come out of an all day training in order to have him be there with us when he got his shots. He had it pretty rough the rest of the day, and from what I heard through Kathryn (our neighbor that watches Vince during the day) today was not so good either. Poor little guy, I feel so bad. We had some good times tonight though, with some smiles and lots of little giggles. I think he's on his way to being his old self again.

Rollin' and Strollin'
Lisa posted a little while ago that Vince had rolled over when she wasn't looking. This morning he rolled over from his front to back while I was right there watching him! Vince was pretty nonchalant about it, and he didn't know what to make of his Dad getting all excited.
This afternoon we went on the Halloween Stroll in Davis Square. It was a bunch of families with young kids, and we all got dressed up for the occasion. Here's a photo of Vince in his pea pod costume:

Here's another photo of all three of us. We went with a theme costume for us. Gold star to anyone who figures it out. You might notice that there are only 2 peas on Vince's costume in this picture, where there were 3 in the photo above. That's because Vince kept ripping them off and eating them!

Here's a better photo of Lisa's costume:

Oh no! A dragon is eating my boy!

Vince was joined on the stroll by Adam, John, and Ava. Here's a couple of pictures, from L-R, of John, Vince, and Adam.

We Have a Milestone....
....but unfortunately it was not witnessed by either my husband nor I. I usually put Vince down on his tummy a lot so he can practice putting his head up. He's become pretty good at it when he wants to, and I'd say it's no small feat with the size of noggin that he has. His head has rapidly become proportionately bigger than the rest of his body, and he sometimes reminds me of the Charlie Brown character when I see him from the back of his head. Here's a good example:

So today I put him down in his little jungle gym, on his tummy so he could look at himself in the mirror. After I put him down, I went over to the table to do some work on the computer... from where I was I could see his feet kicking and moving about. I did about 30 seconds of work on the computer and looked up to see Vince's feet had turned from downward to upward! He was on his back! He had rolled over on his own and I missed it! I jumped up and went over to him and sure enough he was laying there looking up at me as if to say "didn't think I could do it, huh?" So I promptly tried to re-enact the scene but he wouldn't have any of that.... and he hasn't repeated the roll over yet so I don't know if/when we'll get to see it in person. I'm starting to think it was just a fluke, but I'm hoping for the best.
By the way, if you ever listen to Car Talk on NPR.... then you'll know Click and Clack... those witty brothers that will tell you how to (not) fix your car. Well, they were the Grand Marshalls at the Honk Parade that we went to last weekend and I just want to put their picture up for a tribute (even though they never waved to us). I'm not sure which is Click and which is Clack though, anyone have insight?

A Beautiful Fall Weekend
The weather was so nice both days this weekend, that we decided to spend as much time outdoors as possible. So no errands, house cleaning, laundry, or home projects for us.
On Saturday our friends Marcus and Amy invited us to a farm near their house which has a pumpkin patch and apple picking. Lisa, being an inviter, made sure that all of our friends with babies, and some without, knew about the outing. Here's a summary of who showed up:
19 adults
8 babies
1 dog
Of course, the farm was pretty packed with families. We never did make it to apple picking, but we got some great photos from the pumpkin patch, ate apple cider donuts and ice cream, and relaxed in the sun.
Some of the babies and parents in the pumpkin patch. From left to right: Me and Vince, Amy and Aaron, Erika and Sally, and Kathryn and Adam.
On Sunday there was the Honk! parade from Davis Square to Harvard Square, which went down Mass Ave close to our house. The parade had a bunch of brass and drum bands with very interesting costumes. The parade ended at the Octoberfest celebration in Harvard Square. Most of the square was blocked off, with lots of crafts and food for sale. There were also a couple of beer gardens, but it's hard to get into them with a stroller.
Here are a couple of pictures from the parade:

Lisa's friend Jason Welle from Peace Corps was also in town. He joined us for dinner on Saturday night, and for the parade on Sunday morning.

Weekend in Schenectady
This weekend was one of Mike's cousin's wedding receptions, so we packed up the car Friday night and headed to Schenectady for the weekend. After this trip I think we've learned that Vince's limit in the car is pretty much 3 hours. We've realized that we need to load him up with milk, change his diaper, stick the pacifier in his mouth, and then immediately get him in the car and shove off for our destination. He's a pretty good little traveler while we're on the freeway. As soon as the car slows down however, or God forbid we have to stop at a light, he'll begin to protest. He makes it very clear that he does not like traffic lights. I've heard this same thing goes on with my other friends babies too.... I have to admit I've done a few California Rolls through some stop signs just to keep Vince satisfied. Does anyone have other ideas that help them get through crying while in the car?
Mike has somewhere around 26 cousins, so I wasn't surprised when I hadn't met the cousin whose celebration it was for. We stayed with his Aunt Perina and Uncle Tony, so Vince got to meet his some of his Schenectady family.....

Happy Birthday Mike!
Yesterday marked Mike's 35th year of life, as well as his first birthday as a father. He awoke in the morning to a card and a present that Vince had gotten him at the mall the day before! I had to drive him there, but he knew exactly which sweater he wanted to buy his Daddy. I think Mike liked it because he wore it proudly to work that day, and let everyone know his son gave it to him for his birthday. To celebrate the occasion further, I knew Mike would really enjoy a night out to a nice dinner... without having to hold a squirmy little boy while trying to bring a fork to his mouth.
I arranged to have a friend of ours watch Vince (thanks so much Karen!), and we headed over to the Temple bar, a restaurant not far from our house. It was such a nice night out, and we were able to sit right by the open window. I have to say that we REALLY enjoyed being able to take our time and enjoy a meal... without having squirmy baby Vince. It was a nice opportunity for ourselves. We did, however, end up talking about Vince much of the time and how cute he is and how happy he makes us. So even in his absence our lives pretty much revolve around our little boy. I suppose that's how it happens when you have kids... and we are just fine with that. We did talk a little bit about how we want to spend our 25th wedding anniversary... it ended in the plan of renewing our vows in some distant exotic country (to be determined) that everyone will have to travel too. So be prepared for a destination re-wedding in 25 years :) All in all, it was a very nice night... and although it was only about 2 hours in length, it was enough time to bring us back to ourselves and recharge our batteries for being able to take care of the little one.
